Digital India Initiative
Recently, the Digital India initiative completed nine years of launch.
Key Highlights
- It was launched by the Government of India in 2015.
- Aim: To transform India into a knowledge-based economy and a digitally empowered society by ensuring digital services, access, inclusion, empowerment, and bridging the digital divide.
- The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) coordinated with the various ministries and departments of the central and state governments.
Major Initiatives
- Ayushman Bharat: It aims to provide health insurance coverage to vulnerable sections of society.
- BharatNet: It is aimed at providing high-speed internet access to rural areas.
- Bharat Interface for Money (BHIM): It is a UPI-based payment app developed by the National Payments Corporation of India. It simplifies digital transactions.
- Jan Dhan Yojana: It is a financial inclusion program that facilitates affordable access to financial services such as bank accounts, remittances, credit, insurance and pensions.
