Key Highlights

• It is an initiative of the Government of India that aims to enhance India’s capacity to cope with extreme weather and climate challenges.
• Nodal Ministry: Ministry of Earth Science (MoES), Government of India
• Institutional Collaboration: India Meteorological Department (IMD), the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, and the National Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasting (NCMRWF).

 

Significance of Mission Mausam

• It will improve the country’s weather and climate observations and provide better monsoon forecasts, air quality alerts, and extreme weather warnings.
• It will enhance weather prediction by integrating advanced observation systems, high-performance computing and technologies like artificial intelligence and machine learning.
• It will forecast on both spatial and temporal scales and help to strategise weather management and preparedness efficiently.
