Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) Based Tolling
The Indian Government is planning to implement the GNSS-based toll collection systems starting April 2025.
Key Highlights
- It is a new satellite-based toll collection system that will track the vehicle's location and charge tolls based on the distance travelled.
- It aims to replace the existing toll collection system, FASTag.
- Vehicles with GNSS equipment will be able to travel up to 20 km for free each day on the National Highways and Expressways.

About GNSS
- Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) include constellations of Earth-orbiting satellites that provide positioning, navigation and timing information services on a global or regional basis.
Some of the core GNSS are:
- GPS (USA)
- GLONASS (Russia)
- BeiDou (China)
- GALILEO (European Union)
