PM E Drive Scheme

Recently, the Union Cabinet approved the proposal of the Ministry of Heavy Industries for the implementation of the PM E Drive Scheme to promote electric vehicle mobility in India.

Key Highlights

• It is an initiative of the Government of India dedicated to addressing environmental pollution and fuel security concerns. 
• It will also enhance the mobility of electric vehicles throughout the country.
• The scheme is introducing an Aadhaar-authenticated e-voucher for EV buyers to avail of demand incentives under the scheme. 
• It will also create employment opportunities through manufacturing and the establishment of charging infrastructures. 

 

Objectives of the PM E Drive Scheme

• To the adoption of EVs by providing upfront incentives for their purchase, as well as by facilitating the establishment of essential charging infrastructure for EVs.
• To promote EVs to reduce the environmental impact of transportation and improve air quality. 
• It will promote an efficient, competitive and resilient EV manufacturing industry.
