Search and Rescue Aid Tool (SARAT)

The Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services  (INCOIS) has developed a Search And Rescue Aid Tool (SARAT).

  • Search and Rescue Aid Tool (SRAT) was launched in 2016 and has been used extensively by the Coast Guard in its marine search operations. 
  • It facilitates the search and rescue operations in the seas to track lost individuals/vessels.
  • The tool is based on a high-resolution Regional Ocean Modelling System run operationally on High-Performance Computers.
  • Objective: To monitor the Indian Ocean using a network of buoys, tide gauges, and satellites. 
  • Significance: It supports the Coast Guard and other agencies in saving lives by reducing search areas thereby enhancing efficiency in search and rescue operations.
