Pradhan Mantri – Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM)
The Delhi High Court recently directed the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government to sign an MoU with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare(MoHFW) for implementing the PM-ABHIM scheme.
About PM-ABHIM
- Launched: 25th October 2021.
- Duration: 5 years (2021-2026).
- Structure: Includes Centrally Sponsored Scheme (CSS) and Central Sector (CS) components.
- Objective: Strengthen public health systems across primary, secondary, and tertiary care levels, while improving preparedness for future pandemics.
- To enhance public health infrastructure, surveillance, and research, ensuring equitable access to healthcare across urban and rural regions.
Key Measures under PM-ABHIM:
- Supporting States/UTs in establishing Ayushman Arogya Mandirs (AAM) in urban and rural areas.
- Strengthening Block Public Health Units and Integrated District Public Health Labs.
- Developing Critical Care Hospital Blocks.
- Improving health surveillance, emergency response, and pandemic preparedness.
- Promoting the One Health approach for managing infectious diseases in humans and animals.
