Recently, the Union government announced the constitution of the 8th Pay Commission to revise the salaries of the central government employees and allowances of pensioners.

About Pay Commission

• Pay Commission determines the pay scales, allowances, and other benefits for central government employees, considering inflation and its impact on remuneration and cost of living.
• Objective: Proposing formulas for dearness allowance (DA) and dearness relief (DR) adjustments to mitigate inflation’s impact.
• The government of India, under the Department of Expenditure, Ministry of Finance, establishes a new Pay Commission every 10 years.
• Chairperson: Usually headed by a retired Supreme Court judge.
• The recommendations of the pay commission are not binding on the government.
• The 7th Pay Commission was implemented in 2016.
• Justice A.K. Mathur was the chairperson of the 7th Pay Commission.
