President’s Rule in Manipur
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), GOI has announced the imposition of the president's rule in Manipur, this marks the 11th time the president’s rule has been imposed in the state of Manipur.
About President Rule
- Article 356 of the Indian Constitution empowers the President of India to impose President’s Rule in a state in case of the failure of the constitutional machinery.
- Duration: 6 months if approved by both houses of the parliament.
- Extendable up to 3 years with the approval of Parliament every six months.
- Parliamentary Approval: The President’s rule requires approval from both Houses of Parliament within 2 months from the date of its imposition.
